Line dance classes are held in the area as follows:
- Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Carlton Civic Centre, intermediate/advanced, £3.50 per dancer.
- Thursdays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Edward Dunn Memorial Hall, Maltby, beginners, £3.50 per dancer (free tea and biscuits in a break half way through the class).
- Thursdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Oldcotes Village Hall, intermediate, £3.50 per dancer (free tea and biscuits in a break half way through the class).
Anyone is welcome to these classes, where there is a friendly atmosphere, whatever your ‘talents’! Dave Burkinshaw has been teaching line dancing for over 20 years and still get pleasure from seeing complete beginners turn in ‘experts’ in a few short months. Line dancing is an excellent way to exercise and meet new people. It is not necessary to have a partner.
In addition, Boots and Bolos hold a monthly Social in Oldcotes Village Hall (S81 8JN). These take place on the first Saturday of the month from 7.30pm to 11.30pm. The next one is 2nd June. Social nights are based on easy to medium dances and include many of the ‘standards, such as Just Wanna Dance, Islands in the Stream, Pot of Gold, and recent intermediate dances — Champagne Promise, Lonely Drum, etc. A selection of advanced dances (You’re My Anthem, Women Amen, I got This Too) are also included. If enough people wish the Sway and Barn Dance partner dances are danced half way through the evening.
All dancers (both new and existing) are encouraged to fill in request forms — and you can provide your own dance tracks on a memory stick if you like! Dave will play as many as he can during the night and aims to keep the dance floor full all night. The dance floor is excellent, parking is good and the sound system is second to none. There is something for everyone, whatever your level, so do come along and give it a try. At the May Social there were over 59 dances! At only £5.00 per dancer (bring your own food and drink if you like to party), this is a super night out.
