The July meeting of the Bassetlaw branch of Parkinson’s UK welcomed the return of Fools Gold, the ever-popular husband and wife duo, who entertained with their unique blend of music, storytelling and video. Their performances are always a highlight of the year. The Branch continues to thrive, with new members joining most months and receiving a warm welcome. New friendships are formed regularly and a wide range of activities are enjoyed together. The popular singing group recently performed 1940s songs on stage at the Aurora Centre for Armed Forces Day, with all participants dressed in 1940s attire. A total of 22 Branch members took part in the Walk for Parkinson’s at Thoresby Park on Saturday 5th July. Weekly sessions in bowling, walking football and seated Pilates remain firm favourites, offering fun, laughter and exercise in equal measure. The late summer outing to the seaside is booked for Tuesday 9th September.
Branch meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month at Worksop Cricket Club, Central Avenue, S80 1EN, starting at 2.00pm. The August meeting will be held on Tuesday 5th August, featuring a presentation on the life of Bess of Hardwick by Marion Burbridge and Dean Butlin – a talk not to be missed.The meeting on Tuesday 2nd September will welcome Barry Harper, who will share his account of a hazardous journey across Slave Lake, Canada. The Branch extends the hand of friendship and support to anyone living with Parkinson’s, as well as their family and friends. Anyone curious about the group is most welcome to drop in and discover the many benefits of joining such a community. No booking is required, all welcome.
