Award winners’ latest production

Regular supporters of the Worksop Light Operatic Society will know what good shows they produce — but now it’s official! They are award winners. At the recent regional meeting for the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, the Society’s sell-out production of ‘Annie’ in May 2017 was awarded the accolade of Best Musical for the Midland Area. Although the members were aware they had been nominated, it was not until the date of the awards ceremony that the winner was announced, just like the Oscars!
“When our name was called as the winner we just didn’t believe it,” commented one of the members at the meeting, “there were so many other societies in the running, we thought we couldn’t possibly win.”

The Society was also nominated for Best Pantomime for their production ‘Once Upon A Time’ in January 2017, which was not declared the winner. “Just to be nominated is an honour in itself,” said the Society Secretary.
If you want to see what makes this society such an award winner, booking is now open for their next production, which is to be the fabulous ‘White Christmas’, based on the film of the same name starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Featuring the songs of Irving Berlin, this is a heart-warming family show guaranteed to send you out humming the familiar tunes.

It is to be performed at the Acorn Community Theatre, Worksop from Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th November 2018, at 7.00pm each night and with a matinee at 2.00pm on Saturday. Tickets are £12.50 full price and £10.50 concessions, with all tickets full price on Friday and Saturday night. Bookings can be made at the Acorn Theatre box office (open Wednesday, 12.00pm to 3.00pm, and Saturday, 12.00pm to 2.00pm, call 01909 501817), online via www.acorntheatre.net and through any society member.
