Aurora is a local cancer charity providing support across Bassetlaw for individuals living with cancer or long-term health conditions. Based in the Old Library Building in Worksop, Aurora offers a safe, welcoming environment for anyone feeling lonely, looking to meet others, or interested in trying a new hobby.

As a community hub, Aurora also runs a variety of heritage and wellbeing activities. The on-site charity shop features a wide range of pre-loved items, while Valerie’s Tearooms offer home-cooked food at reasonable prices.

Spotlight on… Bereavement Group

For those struggling with the effects of bereavement, Aurora offers a weekly support group. Sessions take place every Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm in the Meeting Room at the Old Library Building. The sessions are free and include refreshments, offering a space to talk with others who have had similar experiences.

For those who would prefer a private one-to-one conversation, a limited number of appointments are available with Aurora’s volunteer ‘listening ear’ befrienders on Wednesday mornings. To book an appointment, call 01909 470985.

Commemorating the Worksop War Memorial Centenary

Aurora Wellbeing Centre Bassetlaw was proud to support a special community event on Friday 30th May, organised by the Royal British Legion – Worksop Branch, marking the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of Worksop’s war memorial.

The service, led by Reverend Nigel Stones, featured hymns, live music by the Worksop Miners Welfare Band, readings, a wreath-laying ceremony and the Act of Remembrance. Dr Phillip Foster, Chair of Trustees at Aurora, laid a wreath on behalf of the charity. The event concluded with reflections from Professor Veronica Pickering, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, followed by refreshments at Valerie’s Tearoom, where attendees gathered to connect and reflect. Aurora extends thanks to all who made this memorable day possible.
