On Saturday 13th April at 7.30pm, Anston Male Voice Choir and special guests Thurcroft Welfare Band perform a benefit concert at The Crossing Church and Centre, Newcastle Street, Worksop. The Crossing is one of the town centre’s most extensively used community facilities and proceeds from the concert will support the refurbishment of its AV facilities.
Howard Thomas conducts the choir, whose accompanist is Cynthia Herrington and Matthew Wright is the musical director and conductor of the band.
Matt has been Musical Director of Thurcroft Welfare Brass Band for the past four years. He came to the band straight from studying music at Huddersfield University where he excelled in conducting. Since his arrival he has led the band in numerous concerts and competitions. Thurcroft Band is regularly seen playing in a variety of events throughout the year.
Matt started his career in music at the age of eight learning the trumpet. Most of his early experience of music was spent playing in wind bands, jazz bands and orchestras. It was not until 2012 when he was at university that he was introduced to brass bands when he joined Hade Edge Band. As well as brass playing and conducting Matt is a keen singer. At the age of nine he joined the Doncaster Minster Choir and the following year the Danensian Choir.
Adult tickets are £8.00, and under 16s £4.00, and they are obtainable from The Crossing’s welcome desk. They can also be ordered from 01909 475421 or info@musicatthecrossing.co.uk.
