1208 (Warsop) Squadron

October was great for 1208 (Warsop) Squadron, with at least 11 new recruits joining at the beginning of the month and preparations in place to begin training for Remembrance events such as uniform inspections and prepping nights, foot and banner drill practice.

Cadets were out poppy-selling in November to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, as well as going out to help the community with their shopping while raising some much-needed funds for the Squadron so it can continue to support young people!

As well as welcoming new cadets, the Squadron also welcomed a new Officer In Command (OIC), Pilot Officer Tony Eaton RAFAC. Tony joined at the start of October, and he has settled into the role very well! The group is sad to be saying goodbye to Flight Lieutenant Taylor after the handover process has ended but wish to thank her for all her work.

In the meantime, cadets from the main squadron have all been working towards more awards such as classifications, road marching and much more, with Cadet Corporal Coupe achieving the highest classification he can, Master Cadet.

It is also promotion time. With nine cadets who have applied to be promoted to the next rank, the staff have been working very hard to provide the correct types of interview questions for the potential new Corporals, Sergeants and Flight Sergeants.

The Squadron are also preparing for losing their most senior cadet. Cadet Warrant Officer Newton will be leaving them at the end of the year as she turns 20. She will age out of being an Air Cadet with the option to stay with the unit as either a uniformed or non-uniformed member of staff. She has the dream of joining the Royal Air Force, but in the meantime, she’s been working with their current Corporals to get them ready for taking on some of her lighter duties.

The cadets are looking forward to 2024, as with that the Squadron will have their new building as well as seeing the start of the refurbishment of the building they use at the moment. This is the final steps in them becoming Warsop Joint Cadet Centre, sharing all the space with the Warsop Detachment of the ACF. Watch this space!

From all at 1208 (Warsop) Squadron, best wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
