Winthrop Gardens in Wickersley will be re-opening in a careful and phased way as the lifting of Government restrictions permit. On Saturday 1st May they will hold an ‘outdoor’ Open Day and Plant Sale, starting at 10.00am and ending at 4.00pm.
“We are absolutely delighted to be talking about Winthrop re-opening after over 12 months of being closed, but we plan to do this in a phased way,” said Councillor Sue Ellis, Chair of Wickersley Parish Council.
“On Saturday 1st May we’ll be throwing open our doors to the public for the first time for our ‘Welcome Back’ Open Day and Plant Sale. We’ll also have some other stalls including crafts and preserves. All outside in the fresh air and with plenty of space for everyone. We very much look forward to welcoming back our lovely volunteers, friends, supporters and customers.
“As things seem to be going to plan regarding the lifting of restrictions we plan to fully re-open to the public on Tuesday 18th May. Our gardens, café and Curiosity Corner will all be open and we’ll be open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10.30am and 4.00pm.
Anna Chester, Winthrop Organiser, said: “With care and consideration for the safety of our all volunteers and customers we’ve been reviewing all our operational arrangements to assure COVID security and provide reassurance to all our volunteers and customers. For example, all our volunteers have had their first vaccine and the majority will have had their second ‘top up’ dose by the time we fully re-open in May; our indoor facilities will be for those who have had their vaccines although we’ll be pleased to serve those who have not in our outdoor seating facilities. And for the time being – contrary to many other retail outlets – we’ll be ‘cash only’. The most important thing though is that we are all looking forward to extending a warm, Winthrop welcome back to everyone.”
