Winthrop at Rotherham Show

Winthrop is delighted to be sponsoring several categories in the ‘Made in Rotherham’ section of Rotherham Show being held in Clifton Park from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th September.
Councillor Sue Ellis, Chair of the Winthrop Committee, said: “This year we were unable to hold our Annual Bake Off in March due to the continuing COVID restrictions so we’re delighted to join forces with Rotherham Borough Council to help to promote the ‘Made in Rotherham’ section of Rotherham Show and give all those who normally enter the Great Winthrop Bake Off the opportunity to demonstrate their amazing skills.”
Winthrop Organiser Anna Chester added: “Winthrop is delighted to be sponsoring six categories: ‘A Yorkshire Afternoon Tea’; a Jar of Fruit Jam, a Jar of Chutney, a Plate of Four Scones (savoury or sweet) and, for all the children who did so much wonderful baking during lockdown, ‘My Favourite Lockdown Bake’ with two aged bands – up to 10 and 11 to 16.
“Over the years of the Great Winthrop Bake Off we’ve had some fantastic entries, from entrants as young as five to our over 80 year old champion scone maker and I really hope our bakers and preserve makers will enter the Rotherham Show and let everyone see just how talented they are!”
For the first time this year there will be a ‘Demo Kitchen’ and Anna has accepted the invitation to do a cookery demonstration on Sunday morning!
General information about Rotherham Show can be found at www.rotherham.gov.uk/rotherhamshow.
Anyone interested in entering the ‘Made in Rotherham’ section can find all the information they need at www.rotherham.gov.uk/sports-leisure/information-made-rotherham-show-competitors. There are 101 classes – vegetables, fruit, flowers, baking, preserving, craft – with 14 classes for children so pretty much something for everyone! It’s only 50p to enter so why not have a go. The deadline for entries is Thursday 2nd September.
