Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) launched Rotherham VIP Volunteering week in October to coincide with National Make a Difference Day, promoting volunteering in Rotherham. VAR staff worked with the chief executives from a number of key agencies in the borough to secure volunteering placements for them in local voluntary and community groups. This has included; RMBC, South Yorkshire Police, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group and Voluntary Action Rotherham’s own CEO Janet Wheatley.
Julie Adamson, Director of Services, said: “Getting our leaders involved in local communities is key. It is important that the people who make decisions about the lives of others in the town understand what life is really like for people who live and work in Rotherham. Volunteering in one of the town’s many groups supporting those often most vulnerable is an excellent way of building knowledge and understanding of some of the issues residents of Rotherham face. #VIPVolunteering #volunteeringrotherham.”
