September! Here come the children, returning after the summer holiday. Some bright and eager, chattering like finches: others “creeping like a snail, unwillingly to school”.And here come U3A members, all bright and willing. No snails in sight, happily returning to their various activities after the summer break.

In September, we welcome a much-awaited French group for beginners and improvers. Free of charge for the first six months, and provided it retains at least six members, becoming a fully-fledged U3A group on payment of the 2018-19 subscription (at £30.00 per member per year). The fee allows all members to join as many U3A groups as they wish, subject to places being available. Contact Tricia Macredie on 01709 370899.

Continuing the French connection, the Opera group begin their new year with a large-screen presentation of ‘La Traviata’, based on Alexander Dumas’ romantic novel ‘La Dame Aux Camélias’. Enjoy the atmosphere of a large Opera House production, without the expense and with a guaranteed friendly reception. Would-be members are especially welcome. The curtain rises at 1.30pm to 4.00pm on 9th October, at the Unity Centre. Please contact John Carter on 0114 246 3663.
