In the run up to Christmas 2022, Rotherham Sitwell Rotarians collected outside the Asda Superstore at Aldwarke and raised £3,341. Joint collections with Round Table and Continuity raised a further £9,608, which will be shared between the three organisations to donate to their chosen charities. There were also personal donations that will be distributed.
What was particularly heartening for collectors was the pleasure on the faces of people not only when they saw that Father Christmas had come to see them, but also the knowledge that their donations would be spent wisely.
On 12th January, Rotherham Sitwell Rotarians invited representatives of four local charities to share their current commitments. Following the updates, donations were given to the representatives of the four charities that are particularly supported: Paul Sylvester, Headteacher of Newman School; Ruth Carr and Steve Burns of Rotherham Cancer Care Centre; Jamie Noble and Jonathan Allen of Rotherham United Community Sports Trust; and Trish Lister and Roger Green of Start-a-Heart 24 / 7.
Also at the event was the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Tajamal Khan, who was inducted as an Honorary Member of Rotherham Sitwell Rotary.
