Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club

As the UK creeps inexorably towards a new beginning, the Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell embraces the new Rotary year with thanks to Trish Lister for an amazing year as president, and warm wishes to Steve Burns starting his own journey in the role. 2020–21 threw up countless challenges and the club responded under Trish’s leadership to support the local community. 2021–22 promises to hold even more challenges.
Steve has heroically stepped up as president after only two years as a Rotarian, but brings with him a wealth of experience in leadership from other organisations in the social, professional and charitable sectors. The club wish him all the very best for the year. An exciting and varied programme awaits and this will be revealed in due course. Here are Steve’s thoughts as he starts his president’s year.
“I had been a member of Rotherham Sitwell Rotary for three months when Roger Green asked if I would consider standing for vice president. I was advised that no previous experience was required but to attend Council, not say anything and just watch Trish, which I duly did. So, if my year goes well I’ve learnt from a master, if not, it’s Trish’s fault!”
Trish kept the club together over the last year – with regular club meetings, social events, council meetings and committee meetings mainly by Zoom, as well as the tremendous effort supporting the Food Bank appeal and their nominated charities as well as other charities with one off donations.
Looking to the future, they’ve lined up some excellent speakers and the first social meeting will be a car treasure hunt on the 5th August and the Charter night will be a black tie dinner with speeches and an entertainer on 30th October.
Steve added: “With regard to my theme for the year; having spent 40 years in a caring profession you won’t be surprised to learn that my theme is caring. Caring for yourself, caring for others, caring for our community and caring for the world. My ‘motto’ will be ‘Who Cares Wins’ with apologies to the SAS. Let’s all be kind to ourselves and kind to others and have a great Rotary year.”
Some of the club’s forthcoming meetings are:

  • 5th August: Treasure Hunt.
  • 12th August: Speaker Meeting – John Breckin, ‘My Life in Football’.
