Foodbank Hub for Rotherham
Local Rotary are supporting a network of 17 Rotherham voluntary and community sector organisations to provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. The support will help fund a system that would create a ‘front door’ for all food referrals across the borough.
The system, which has been used in Lincoln for 10 years, would not only speed up the process of referral to receiving food but also reduce the overall purchase costs and increase the number of places where the food can be collected.
At an update with Rotarians Trish Lister and Paul Daniels, Victoria Morris representing Rotherham Foodbank, said: “The central point of access for food in Rotherham will benefit the community and the agencies that refer. It will allow for coordination across the borough and provide a consistent and comprehensive service for clients.”
The support is coming from a joint project between Rotherham Sitwell Rotary, Rotherham Rotary and a District Rotary Foundation Grant. Research is well underway into the system for the Foodbank Hub and a fully detailed plan will be devised early in 2024.
‘Friendship Boxes’ containing colouring books, pens etc were sent by Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club to the children of Ukraine. These boxes formed part of a shipment of over 400 Friendship Boxes sent to Ukraine for distribution by Rotarians to children throughout Ukraine. They were delighted to receive them.
