Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club

June is the final month of the Rotary year. How the time has flown. At the end of this month President Trish Lister hands over to Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club’s new incoming President Steve Burns. However, there is another month of ‘Service above Self’ ahead and there are many needs and opportunities out there – volunteering at local vaccination centres, a friendly phone call or doing some shopping for anyone who is still housebound. Small gestures that can mean so much.
At the club’s recent AGM it was heartening to hear what members have been able to achieve in this challenging year. The community team have had a hard time this year with many avenues closed to them by COVID but the 2021-22 committee has identified many exciting ways forward once restrictions are lifted.
Despite no face-to-face club meetings, the club’s various committees have remained active and the membership and social teams have provided members with many enjoyable evenings and the opportunity for fellowship. Isn’t this the cornerstone of who they are and one of the many reasons members remain part of Rotherham Sitwell Rotary? They have also been fortunate to induct Martin Davis into their midst and he is already making his mark.
Their speakers in May were Lesley Scholey from Rotherham Lighthouse and Alan Bush from Sherwood Sunrisers Rotary, speaking about the Rotary Partnership with Carers UK. The club have supported the Lighthouse on many occasions and Lesley gave an insight into the ethos of the project and the emphasis on family life and supporting a return to a positive lifestyle. Alan’s talk illuminated the plight of carers and asked Rotarians to consider becoming involved either as individuals or as a club.
Some of the club’s forthcoming meetings are as follows:

1st July: Handover – joint meeting with Round Table and Continuity.
8th July: Speaker meeting – Dennis Ashton, Astronomer, on ‘Other Worlds’.
22nd July: Fellowship meeting at the George Wright Hotel.
