Its principles are Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. Charity has always been a core principle of Freemasonry, enabling members to make an important contribution at a local, national and global level.
Freemasons in the UK give to charity many millions of pounds every year. Each Lodge raises money at a local level, sharing this with local, regional and national charities.
Throughout history there have been many famous Freemasons, including kings, princes, presidents, prime ministers, politicians, Supreme Court justices, titans of industry, sporting legends, stars of screen and stage – and possibly your grandfather! The doors of Freemasonry are always open to good men of moral character who strive to be better husbands, sons, fathers and members of their communities.
At a local level it is a friendly, enjoyable and sociable organisation where there is a balanced combination of ceremony and Lodge business, possibly discussing worthy causes to support, coupled with a tasty meal referred to as the ‘Festive Board’.
On Saturday 30th April the Rotherham Freemasons are holding an Open Day at the Masonic Rooms at Rotherham Golf Club, Thrybergh. This is to welcome anyone who may be interested in Freemasonry and to enable them to be given a tour of the Lodge, to ask questions and to be given a clear idea about the Lodge’s aims and objectives.
There is ample parking and refreshments will be available. If you have ever been curious about Freemasonry, now is your chance to discover why its members are proud to be called Masons!
