November could be delightful

“No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds. November!” Many people share Thomas Hood’s gloomy assessment of this month. But is November really so bleak when hedgerows and gardens are alight with berries, chrysanthemums and glossy-leaved shrubs, when scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon zest drift from bakeries and kitchens? And when Rotherham U3A offers such a variety of interesting activities and opportunities for older people to live, laugh and learn together?

I’ve lost count of those who say they’ve been thinking about joining, the U3A but “haven’t quite got round to it”. Why not brighten up your November by taking that first step?

‘Get to know your U3A’ is a social event on 9th November at The Unity Centre (on the junction of St Leonard’s Road and St Anne’s Road), between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Whether long-time, new, would-be or unsure-whether–to-be member, a warm welcome is guaranteed.

Talk over a cup of coffee or tea. Learn about the U3A, the activities available, the friendship, support and pure enjoyment to be had from joining one or more of the 34 groups meeting in and around Rotherham. Why be bored, isolated or lonely?

Paint a colourful November with one of the art groups; make a melodic November with the ‘Singing for Fun’, the choir or the opera group; strictly brush away November cobwebs with ‘Come Dancing’, country dancing, line dancing or longsword and rapper dancing. And that’s just for starters!
