The young cast of Maltby Minors and their tutors are preparing for their next production, Aladdin, taking place over three nights from 30th March to 1st April 2020. They stage these shows at the Wesley Centre in Maltby, in a small theatre developed from a 19th century Methodist Chapel of the same name. The theatre auditorium has a retractable set of tiered seats and an extending stage to allow up to 30 children to perform to an audience of 100 to 120 people per performance.
Maltby Minors was formed in 1991 in order to introduce and develop children from the age of nine upwards in dramatic art and music, regardless of race, ability or disability. They pride themselves in the promotion of social awareness, kindness to others, whilst gaining the confidence to perform on stage and having fun along the way. In addition, they engage students from local colleges to assist with music, sound and lighting as part of their course work.
They perform in a recognised socially deprived area. Children are not required to audition in order to join the society, and subscriptions are low at £3.00 per rehearsal. They rehearse each Monday evening at the Wesley Centre on Blyth Road in Maltby, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, with occasional rehearsals on Sunday as they approach the show.
They still have places available in the cast of Aladdin, so if anyone would like to join them, please contact Glenys on 01709 700768.
Tickets for the show are available on the same phone number, priced at £8.00, and £7.00 for concessions.
