Rotherham’s Children’s Capital of Culture has given Maltby Miners’ Welfare Band the opportunity to celebrate the younger players in their Senior Band. These fantastic young players are their future – not only carrying on the cultural tradition of brass banding, but giving it new life.
They were part of the world premier of ‘Days of Hope’, a Drum and Bass piece commissioned for the Band by Rotherham Music and composed by the great jazz trumpeter / composer Matt Roberts. Performed at this year’s Rotherham Show, the piece featured brother and sister Matt and Katie Wood on solo trombone and principal cornet.
The band will now be working up the Christmas programme, as their annual concert at Rotherham Civic Theatre will be on 1st and 2nd December. Tickets are available from the Civic Theatre box office and are selling fast!
