Dadesley Crafting

Would you like to learn a new craft, or hobby, but are worried about the expense? Or maybe you think you’re not crafty enough even to try. Well, at Dadesley Crafting CIC they believe everyone has a crafty streak.
Dadesley Crafting is a non-profit company based in Tickhill. They aim to:

  • Bring people together, improve mental health and wellbeing and combat loneliness.
  • Use crafting as a form of therapy to improve mental health and wellbeing of its members.
  • Promote mutual support and cohesion to combat isolation experienced by the client group.
  • Support people with dementia and their family members / carers.

They achieve their aims through crafting. They organise monthly Artisan Markets and hold thrifty craft sessions.
This is a dementia-friendly and mixed ability group and craft sessions are aimed at beginners with no experience, or those who are wanting to refresh themselves with a particular craft. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome.

Thrifty craft sessions

All sessions are £6.00 each and last two hours. Materials and equipment are supplied, even the chocolate biscuits!
There is a monthly focus over four weekly sessions. Previous foci have included knitting, crochet and macramé to name a few.
There are also one-off social sessions, for things like card making, MDF painting, floral arrangements and painted mandalas.
There is a get-together twice a week for needle crafts (yarn group), which is an unstructured session where people complete their own work in a friendly environment. This is a great group to come to if you’ve had that project that you started working on a couple of years ago and put down; now you can pick it up again and have someone to help you finish knitting that jumper!

Often craft classes are expensive and you go away with a feeling that you’ve wasted your money and that you can’t do the craft you wanted to try. Dadesley members always leave with something that they have made during that session and a smile on their face, knowing that they are crafty, with a sense of achievement and relaxed.
People often say they aren’t crafty. Dadesley can help them find their crafty streak.

Artisan Market

All crafters are fully insured and everything sold is handcrafted by the people behind the stall. So often you go to a ‘craft fair’ to find that it is full of stalls selling mass produced items. Not here.

The group helps new crafters understand the importance of insurance and legislation surrounding what they make.
On the first Saturday of the month they are at Northgate Community Hub, Tickhill, and then on the third Saturday they are at Bawtry New Hall.
