Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice will be having their exciting, annual Dragon Boat Race and Family Fun Day at Manvers Lake on Saturday 8th July.
14 teams are signed up so far to splash down and paddle their way through several heats to compete for first place. Amongst the teams taking part are last year’s winners, CrossFit Rotherham, who have entered two teams this time. Jane Petit from CrossFit Rotherham said: “We were proud to win last year and have recruited a second team this year. The teams train regularly at CrossFit Rotherham and find that this really helps build strength and stamina for the races. We can’t wait to get back on the water again!”
The event will be great fun not just for the teams taking part but also for spectators who can watch and cheer the teams on as well as enjoying a host of family-friendly activities.
The event is sponsored by fashion retailer Boohoo Group Plc. Sophie Clark, Communications and Engagement Advisor at Boohoo, said: “We are incredibly excited to sponsor Bluebell Wood’s iconic Dragon Boat Race 2023. Working alongside a charity who do amazing work all year round is an honour, and we are pleased to support this event which will raise vital funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.”
Beth Cole, Events Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood, added: “We’re looking forward to another fantastic Dragon Boat Race event and this one is set to be better than ever with lots of competitive teams taking part. There will be prizes for the most money raised, the best dressed team and, of course, the winner.”
The event is free to spectators and there’ll be lots of fun things to enjoy in between races, as well as activities for the whole family from 10.00am to 5.00pm. This includes children’s games, amusements, face painting and other attractions and stalls. They will also be running a barbecue, food stalls and a bar.
