Afternoon Tea ladies?

Winthrop Gardens and Wickersley Parish Council are working together to bring a return to the renowned Winthrop Vintage Afternoon Teas, with a first event on Thursday 9th September.
Councillor Sue Ellis, Chair of the Winthrop Committee, said: “The need to assure COVID safety for everyone – customers and volunteers alike – means that our rooms down at Winthrop are a bit on the small side for our renowned set-piece Vintage Afternoon Teas. So we’re delighted to be able to use the large function room at the Wickersley Community Centre to bring a return to these popular events. Tables will be extremely well spaced, the room will be fresh air ventilated and fully sanitised and all our volunteers serving the teas will be wearing face coverings.
“The first, in what we plan to be a series of events, will be on Thursday 9th September and it will be a Vintage Afternoon Tea for those ladies who are just too busy to go to Ladies Day at the St Leger in Doncaster!”
Anna Chester, Winthrop Organiser, added: “We’re all very much looking forward to the return of these events as we know how much our guests enjoy them. We’ll serve a selection of sandwiches, savouries, sweets things and of course, scones with jam and clotted cream! It’s the perfect occasion to get out your posh frock and of course wear the biggest hat you have! And we’ll be bringing our ‘Winthrop Hat Collection’ to add to the occasion and for anyone who is hatless! We have one or two other things planned – but more about them on the day!”
Tickets are £12.50 and guests are invited to go in groups of four or six to have their own table – guest in groups of fewer than four may have to share tables.
Tickets are available from the Winthrop Tea Rooms on Second Lane, S66 1EE – payment in full and in cash will confirm your reservation.
