Rotherham charity Rush House are thrilled to announce that, following a successful six-month pilot programme, they have now been funded to continue their Community Outreach programme in partnership with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police Hotspot Response Hub and South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit.
After a brief stand down period, their team of dedicated Outreach Support Workers have been back walking the streets of Rotherham Town Centre, targeting those areas identified as ‘hot spots’ where the most vulnerable people in our town are known to congregate and need support.
You’ll find them out in the town centre on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as a visible presence for people to seek support and information. Through having that visible presence they want the residents of Rotherham to feel safe venturing into town, knowing that organisations are working collaboratively to create a town centre that people can feel safe to walk around and where vulnerable people who may be prone to engaging in unwanted behaviour can be encouraged and supported to make better choices.
Rush continue to collaborate with Safe Haven by attending their sessions on a Wednesday and Friday evening, pooling resources to ensure that vulnerable people can get the support they need. With funding secured until the end of March 2026, they want to use this time to build more connections with local business and statutory partners to ensure they’re all supporting people in the right way, at the right time and positive impact.
Rush House Ltd is a registered charity established in Rotherham in 1982 in response to the increasing level of homelessness amongst young people. What started as a six-bed hostel, providing little but a roof over their heads, has grown and developed over the years to become a range of accommodation and support services to meet the needs of those most vulnerable and chaotic young people in our society who have often had enough adversity in their childhood to last a lifetime.
One of their is “belief of change”, acknowledging and recognising that whatever adversity you have been faced with in your life, with the right support, a positive attitude and the right skills you can and will achieve. Their offer now includes a 50-bed supported accommodation service providing supported accommodation and Lifeskills training to vulnerable, homeless young people aged 16 to 25 (including care leavers). They offer high quality, fully furnished accommodation across the Rotherham Borough with access to highly skilled 24-7 staff support as well as intensive 1:1 support with their keyworking team. Their aim is to empower and equip young people with the knowledge and skills to live independently and become contributing members of their community.
They also offer their A Place of Your Own online pre-tenancy programme and their Brighter Futures service which provides holistic, person centred support to those who may otherwise struggle to enter their chosen path to education, training and employment, This service is open to anyone 16+ in the Rotherham area who needs support to achieve their goals.
