Rotary Young Leadership Award
At Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club’s meeting at the beginning of April, students Dylan and James gave a very professional PowerPoint presentation after attending the annual Rotary Young Leadership Award (RYLA) in Castleton.
The three-day residential based at the custom-built Rotary Centre is a cross between Outward Bound and the Apprentice. It aims to encourage leadership skills and build self-esteem through group challenges.
Their presentation gave Rotarians a greater understanding of the nature of the project and enabled them to be better informed when encouraging young people to attend in the future.
Parkgate and Shetland!
At the Club’s meeting in mid-April Tony Dodsworth delivered a talk on the history of Parkgate. The development of the area as a major steel-making centre during the Industrial Revolution through to the ‘Retail World’ of today is a fascinating chapter in our local history.
The Club were also pleased to welcome Visiting Rotarian and Past-President of Shetland Rotary, Patricia Ash, who kindly presented a decorated tray to President Martin to be a prize in their next charity raffle.
John did it his way
The Club’s meeting on 24th April was extra special as they celebrated with Rotarian John Turner on the eve of his 90th birthday. They toasted John’s health with a glass of ‘fizz’ and John responded with a funny life story involving him, an interview and ripped trousers! He then gave a superb rendition of ‘I Did It My Way’ which probably reflects John’s attitude to life. Many congratulations John. Love and best wishes from all your Rotarian friends.
