The Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club’s meeting on 4th April welcomed speaker Catriona, to talk about her job as a Custodial Manager at a Category A prison.
Catriona has been a prison officer for 21 years, so she had lots of stories to tell on subjects such as prison riots, paedophiles, drug smuggling and many others. It’s very different from the images portrayed in Porridge with Ronnie Barker!
She has come face-to-face with some of the UK’s most notorious murderers and sex offenders. Her bravery and fortitude in the face of daily danger is outstanding and has resulted in her receiving several awards and commendations.
The talk ended on a humorous note when she demonstrated the use of an old style baton on President Peter!
The Club also recently visited Grimm & Co at their new premises. They are currently helping to arrange a visit there for children from Coleridge Primary School. They will visit for their story-making session in June.
