Get ready to roar: Pride of Yorkshire arrives at the library

There’s an exciting energy building across South Yorkshire – and it’s heading straight for the library in Wickersley.

From Monday 8th June until Tuesday 8th September, Pride of Yorkshire officially roars to life, bringing a vibrant mix of art, adventure and discovery to Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

Wickersley Library and Neighbourhood Hub is proud to be part of the journey.

A trail of lions across the region

Pride of Yorkshire is an interactive public art trail featuring beautifully designed lion sculptures placed across the region. Each lion tells its own story, celebrating creativity, local pride and the communities that make South Yorkshire so special.

The library will display Bailey the lion cub from the Wickersley 10K, Sunny from Bramley Sunnyside Junior School and Legend from Listerdale Primary School.

Visitors will be able to pick up a trail map, explore the interactive website and begin collecting lions as they travel from place to place. It is a fantastic way to encourage families to get out and about, discovering new spaces – including their local library.

More than just a trail

Whether a seasoned explorer or a family looking for a fun day out, the library will be a welcoming starting point. As well as picking up information about the trail and planning a lion-hunting route, visitors can take part in themed activities and displays and discover books inspired by lions, wildlife and adventure.

At its heart, Pride of Yorkshire is about connection. It brings together art, community and exploration, encouraging people to see familiar places in new ways.

For children, it is a chance to turn a simple walk into an adventure. For families, it is an opportunity to spend time together. For communities, it is a shared celebration of creativity and pride in the region.

Whether planning to collect every lion, follow a few favourites or simply enjoy the atmosphere, one thing is certain: This is an invitation to explore, discover… and roar.
