The junior cricket season is complete, and Retford Cricket Club have been celebrating their junior players. A recent presentation evening saw prizes awarded in each age category for best batter, bowler, most improved, and player of the season. All age groups are mixed sexes showing the inclusive and welcoming nature of Retford Cricket Club.
The U9 team played in the Nottinghamshire Kwik Cricket Competition. Starting the season with few experienced players, the team did well and came only six points behind the winners and had great fun meeting other cricketers at matches. Despite this emerging talent, there’s always space for more young cricketers.
The U11 team managed second in their league and rose to the quarter finals of the cup. This is a very strong team who look to take their successes into another year of U11 cricket. One of their players even walked out with the club U15 team.
Meanwhile, the U11B got to sixth in the league. These were a younger and slightly less experienced team but have a couple more years to grow at this age group; some did have the chance to represent the U11 cup team.
The U13s came second in the league by a narrow margin and managed to get through to the semi-final of the cup. A small number of these players have also played at U15 and higher, one even playing for the senior second XI team.
A strong U15s team gained a highly creditable second place in the league, but sadly lost the final of the Smedley Cup in the very last formal juniors match of the season. Most of these cricketers have grown their skills at Retford CC. Many are already playing in the senior teams, some alongside family members, and several are trialling for or already representing County Junior Teams.
The season starts again with indoor cricket leagues for all age groups in January, registration day on Saturday 15th February and indoor nets shortly thereafter. If you are interested in more details get in touch at enquiries.retfordcricketclub@gmail.com or through socials.
