Dawn Fisher’s talk to Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club on Monday 18th March, ‘Developing a Wildlife Pond’, was very interesting and full of tips on what plants to put in a pond, not only to attract wildlife but also to protect it. She gave advice on how to position a pond and what plants to put around the pond, to reduce the risk of invasive weeds covering the pond without using chemicals.

The April meeting was the Club’s AGM, followed by a talk from Paul Drage, titled ‘Interesting Intruders’.

Monday 20th May is the start of the Club’s new annual programme, which is full of some excellent speakers and visits to local gardens. Sally Smith will be the speaker on 20th May, talking about ‘The Wonderful World of Weeds’. Sally will be sharing with members her knowledge of how some weeds can be beneficial in the garden – not only to other plants and wildlife, but also to human beings.

Anyone who is not a member of the club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to come along to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments. The meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects, this small, friendly club could be for you. For more information, contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
