The Walks of Life Museum will also be celebrating the rich history of tea drinking. National Tea Day, first celebrated in 2015, takes place each year on 21st April, the birthday of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The day encourages people to appreciate the social tradition of sharing tea together.
In 2022, pupils from Tuxford Primary Academy planted Queen Elizabeth roses in the museum’s memory garden to mark the 70th anniversary of her reign. The garden continues to provide a lovely display. The museum has also created a shrine to St Barbara, the patron saint of miners.
An event celebrating tea drinking will take place on Saturday 25th April from 11.00am to 4.00pm at the Walks of Life Museum. The day will include tea and cake, a raffle and the chance to bring along a favourite teddy bear. The event will raise funds for the Retford Parkinson’s Group.
