Regia’s XLth birthday bash

Regia’s XLth birthday bash

On the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September, the brilliant re-enactors of Regia Anglorum will be returning to Sherwood Pines for their 40th birthday bash!

Their Sherwood event will bring together all the elements that make Regia’s events so special; from watching warriors engaged in violent combat in the arena to walking through the living history camp and into the lives of people who lived a millennium ago. Their members have dedicated themselves to learning various skills to accurately portray the daily existence of people who have been lost to time.

Everything in the mediaeval world was made by hand; from simple carved wooden spoons and bowls to highly intricate embroidery and jewellery. Farmers, carpenters, blacksmiths, weavers, cooks, merchants, glassblowers and many more all made up the rich tapestry of crafts and trades.

This event originated in 2013 when the Friends of Thynghowe group invited Regia Anglorum to come to Sherwood to help celebrate the forest’s Viking heritage. The participants enjoyed the weekend so much that they have returned each year apart from a break following Covid. The Sherwood event has become one of their major events attracting well over a hundred re-enactors.

There should be activity in the arena and the living history camp between 10.00am and 4.00pm each day with a major battle taking place each afternoon.

This free event, hosted by Forestry England, is located on the field near the cafe at Sherwood Pines (NG21 9JL). The usual Sherwood Pines car parking charges will apply.

Enjoy a fascinating day out for all ages.
