Behind Enemy Lines is the next Live & Local show in Ordsall, taking place on Saturday 21st November at 7.30pm. Songwriter and storyteller Louise Jordan brings to life the extraordinary true stories of female spies dropped into Nazi-occupied France during the Second World War. Their courage, daring, ingenuity and sacrifice helped to defeat Nazi terror and set Europe ablaze.
Who were these women? How were they selected and trained? Did they evade capture, torture and execution, or did some make the ultimate sacrifice?
Behind Enemy Lines is a solo performance combining live music, original songs, storytelling, soundscapes, acting and choreography. It honours the inspirational lives of lesser-known women from the Special Operations Executive who were parachuted into occupied France at a dangerous point in the war. Through storytelling, original songs and archival audio, their harrowing and heroic experiences are brought to life. Trained in espionage, sabotage, subversion and silent killing, they risked capture, torture and execution. The production pays tribute to women’s often-overlooked contribution to the war effort.
The performance will appeal to people whose relatives served in the Forces during the Second World War, those with an interest in history and anyone committed to women’s issues.
Louise Jordan is a UK-based songwriter and performer whose work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show and BBC Radio 4. She has a master’s degree in human rights, has toured extensively in the UK and Europe, and has worked with the National Trust, the V&A and the University of Oxford.
