Through lockdown many of us missed being able to shop on our local high street and whilst online shopping was able to substitute some purchases it just couldn’t replace browsing. Charity shops in particular warrant a good rummage and this is hard to recreate online. The joy in finding a rare or unusual item or perhaps that piece of clothing you didn’t know you needed just can’t be replaced with a click of a button.
At RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch they moved some of their shopping online throughout lockdown, to help generate much needed income. However, they were very happy to reopen their high street shops. Not only do the shops offer a diverse array of products, they also act as a great place to catch up, with many loyal customers calling in to pass the time of day. In addition, the shops serve an important purpose in raising funds for the charity’s Animal Centre.
At RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre they rehabilitate and rehome animals in need, as well as offering animal welfare support and education within the local area. Their four high street shops have generated 40% of the Animal Centre’s operational costs since the start of the year and are a vital lifeline for the animals in their care. It really does go to show that every penny spent in the shops and every single item that is donated makes a huge difference to the animals in need.
As a local, independent branch of the RSPCA and as a self-funded charity, the team would like to say a big thank you to everyone who shops, donates and fundraises to help them continue their work rehabilitating and rehoming animals.
There are many ways to help RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch with their mission to rehome and rehabilitate animals, including volunteering, leaving a legacy, donating cash or goods, sponsoring them through their Safe Haven programme and attending their events. They have charity shops at Bawtry, Maltby, Rossington and Thorne as well as an eBay and online shops. At the Animal Centre, they rehome the animals in their care and have a pet supplies store on site and online for all your requirements. They also provide a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5.00, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.
