Changemakers is a three-year project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund that focuses on community climate action, energy sustainability, and empowering local residents to make green changes where they live.
As households continue to feel the pressure of rising living costs, Changemakers focuses on practical, community-driven solutions. The project will bring dedicated support directly into local neighbourhoods, helping residents lower home energy usage, improve green spaces, and build stronger, more sustainable communities.
The three-year programme has four main priorities:
- Lowering energy bills: Offering practical advice, community support, and home energy guidance to help residents keep heating costs down.
- Greening local spaces: Supporting neighbourhood projects such as community gardens, and local biodiversity activities.
- Creating volunteer ‘Changemakers’: Training and supporting local residents to become champions for green initiatives in their own wards.
- Resident-led decisions: Ensuring all environmental projects and local activities are shaped and co-designed by the people who live there.
Changemakers is all about showing that environmental action and saving money go hand in hand. By giving local people the tools, knowledge, and funding to make changes in their own area, the project is building stronger communities and helping people keep more money in their pockets.
The Changemakers team, including a dedicated Project Manager, Community Engagement Officer, and Community Energy Adviser, will begin rolling out activities and drop-in sessions across Rotherham this autumn.
