Ryton Chorale’s Summer Concert will take place at Worksop Priory on Saturday 11th July at 7.30pm. The light-hearted programme will feature a selection of folk songs.
The concert will include Cecilia McDowall’s A Fancy of Folksongs, a captivating suite of four well-loved English folk songs, beautifully arranged with a modern twist. The central theme is love and courtship, with songs exploring a variety of situations, including a swaggering sailor who has abandoned life at sea in pursuit of young women and a lady who waits for her lover – but only until another suitor makes a better offer.
From the gentle lyricism of Green Bushes to the rhythmic and witty O No John, the work offers vibrant and evocative music for both choir and audience. The programme will also include selections from John Rutter’s The Sprig of Thyme, conducted by a guest conductor. The choir will be joined by the Retford u3a Recorder Ensemble, whose performances have proved popular in previous years. The ensemble will also join the choir for several combined pieces.

Following the concert, the choir will take a summer break before rehearsals resume in September. Ryton Chorale welcomes new members in all voice parts. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at 7.30pm at Holy Family School, Netherton Road, Worksop.
