The Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green says spring is the busiest time of year for volunteers as the site bursts into life. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Wildlife Discovery Area and see what wildlife they can spot.
The group will host a Community Nature Day alongside Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust on Saturday 13th June from 10.30am to 3.00pm at the Wildlife Discovery Area on Marina Drive, Shireoaks.
The event will include nature and wellbeing activities for all ages, including pond dipping, nature trails and more. Organisers say no experience is needed, only enthusiasm and curiosity to learn more about local habitats, wildlife and birdlife.
Regular volunteer task days also continue on site. Tasks include pruning, weeding, wildflower seeding and general maintenance work. The group welcomes gardeners, DIY enthusiasts, nature lovers and anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors. Task days take place once a month, with details available on the organisation’s website.
The second phase of the Natural Flood Management project, being carried out with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, will begin after the summer. The next stage will involve creating a new pond on the Wildlife Discovery Area, with volunteers invited to help with marginal planting and related work.
The group also hopes to unveil a new community sculpture at the Woodlands Summit in the near future. The artwork celebrates both the natural history and heritage of Woodlands and Coachwood Green and has been created with contributions from local schools and members of the community.
