Cyclist Judith Broug is aiming to ride 185 miles (297km) in a single day to raise funds for survivors of domestic abuse and child sexual exploitation. Judith will ride from Rotherham to central London on 21st June, the longest day of the year, in aid of local Rotherham domestic abuse charity Hopian, which is marking its 50th anniversary in 2026. Judith said: “I really want to support and highlight Hopian’s 50th anniversary because it’s an incredible achievement. I’ve worked with many charities over the years, and fundraising is really difficult for Hopian because most people struggle to think about domestic abuse and child sexual exploitation. There is still a lot of stigma around it. “Finishing at the statue of Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square is a deliberate reminder of the women who came before us and created change. Fawcett was a pioneering suffragist who played a key role in securing women the right to vote, progress we still need to protect today.”
Judith says she plans to take advantage of the extended daylight hours “because I’m certainly going to need it! I’ve done long rides before, but never this long.” Judith’s challenge has already raised over £700, and she is encouraging others to support the ride and help spread the word. Family fun at Winthrop Gardens to celebrate Hopian’s 50th birthday!
On Saturday 27th June, between 12.00pm and 4.00pm, Winthrop Gardens is “the” place to be for the whole family! Activities have been organised to fundraise for Hopian. Expect to see a tombola stall, a ‘name-the-teddy’ competition, as well as activities such as a Bear Hunt, an exploratory woodland Clay Faces Walk and a Creative Craft area to let your creativity buzz to life!
