Friends Adam Bradley and Andy Shadwick are joining forces to tackle a sponsored walk between Yorkshire’s famous city and seaside landmarks to raise money for Shiloh Rotherham. The pair are gearing up for the 42-mile, 16-hour trek between York Minster and Scarborough Castle on Saturday 23rd May 2026. The walk marks the first step in Adam’s ‘Journey to £10K’ after he pledged to raise £10,000 for the homeless charity during 2026. He said: “I’ve purposefully connected two of my favourite parts of Yorkshire and created the perfect challenge for Shiloh. I love history and walking but I haven’t tackled anything on this scale for 10 years. It will definitely be tough, physically and mentally.

“Thankfully it will be springtime so we can squeeze as many of the miles in during daylight as possible. I think the time pressure and goal to reach the castle before dark will be the toughest part.” Adam said he was inspired to fundraise for Shiloh after attending the charity’s business networking event in 2025 and hearing from one of the charity’s ‘guests’ – the homeless people it supports. “Robin’s story about how he went from being a successful businessman to sleeping rough and then rebuilding his life with Shiloh’s support really inspired me. He showed that homelessness can happen to anyone and his experience from desperation to hope was really moving,” he said.
“It can be tough for small charities like Shiloh to be seen and heard and I hope my fundraising challenge shows the plight of homelessness in all its forms in Rotherham.

“I’d love more people to join Andy and I on the walk – the more the merrier. I’ll probably have no toenails left at the end of the challenge so I really do hope people will sponsor me.” Adam and Andy’s start line will be York Minster at 5.00am and they hope to reach Scarborough Castle by 8.00pm. Andy has been a volunteer at Shiloh for four years and will be joining Adam.

He added: “I’ve always thought about what more I could do for Shiloh, so when Adam told me about his fundraising idea, I had to say yes. I like to get my 10,000 steps in every day, but this is a challenge on a whole other level. I’ll be including more steep inclines in my training to help me overcome the hilly gradients in North Yorkshire.”

Shiloh, based at Station Road in Rotherham, provides food, clothing, shower and laundry facilities, access to technology, intensive one-to-one support and wellbeing advice for adults who are homeless, or facing homelessness. The charity also connects people to partner agencies which can help them gain stability and independence – turning homelessness into hope.

The funds raised by Adam and Andy will help Shiloh to continue running its essential services for some of Rotherham’s most vulnerable people at a critical time in their lives.
