Aurora Wellbeing Centres is a local charity providing support across Bassetlaw for people living with cancer or long-term health conditions. However, Aurora is more than a cancer charity. It offers a safe and welcoming environment for anyone who may be feeling lonely, wants to meet new people or would like to try a new hobby.
The centre acts as a community hub, hosting a range of heritage and wellbeing activities designed to promote self-care, reduce isolation and help people reconnect with their community. Valerie’s Tearooms at the centre serves home-cooked meals and delicious cakes, and can also host pre-booked afternoon teas or private functions.
Spotlight on the charity shop refurbishment
Refurbishment work began at the start of March and the team is looking forward to welcoming shoppers back when the shop reopens in early April. With a fresh new look and plenty of bargains to discover, it aims to be an even more welcoming space for shoppers, donors and volunteers.
New Retail Manager Naomi Jamieson told us what people can expect when the shop reopens: “A friendly local face and great customer service from myself and my team. We have stockpiled the best quality garments for you all to come and try on in our fabulous new changing room. We have a new till system and are looking at launching e-commerce across multiple channels to gain extra income for the charity making the most out of the amazing stock that we receive.”
Aurora are happy to receive saleable donations ranging from ladieswear, menswear, kids wear, homeware and textiles. They will continue to provide an extensive book selection for all ages and are looking to increase their children’s clothing range. Once the shop reopens, they will be pleased to accept your donations Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Naomi added: “We offer many volunteering roles from shopfloor merchandising, customer service, till operator, stock sorting, cleaning and restocking. I would love to have someone crafty join the team to start a haberdashery section for all the budding crafters out there along with someone that can help us run e-commerce for the store.
“Come and share the good energy, the new space is transformative and is such a great addition to the community. We are setting the standard at Aurora and really want to showcase your donations in a beautiful setting. Pop in and see the refreshed shop – every purchase, donation, and volunteer hour helps support Aurora’s vital services for people in Bassetlaw living with cancer and long-term health conditions.”
