They have recently welcomed five new brownies at 11th Rotherham (Whiston) – Evelyn, Savannah, Briella, Ava and Georgia who have made their Brownie promise. All the Brownies are currently working towards the Have Adventures Theme Award. Some of the activities they have been enjoying are: a night walk where they went out with torches and listened out for any nocturnal animals; lessons on how to strike a match and light a candle safely; learning about camping and what the different parts of a tent are called.
They also really enjoyed a trip to Sheffield on Supertram with the Rainbows (a group of over 70) to see the Dick Whittington Pantomime, which was fantastic!One of the group’s Leaders, Anthea, Wise Owl (many will remember her as Brown Owl) was recently surprised with a presentation of a 60-year service award. Wise Owl has been with the 11th Rotherham Brownies since she was a Brownie, then progressed to Pack Leader before becoming Leader in Charge.
Anthea received her award at the Girlguiding South Yorkshire County Annual General Meeting from the County Commissioner, Helen and Deputy County Commissioner, Terri-Ann. There are many positions she has undertaken during her time in Guiding including District Commissioner, Division Commissioner, County Secretary to name a few. The position she has enjoyed the most is being Leader of the Brownies. Congratulations Wise Owl, everyone connected to the group is very excited for Anthea to receive this well-deserved award!
