Homeless charity guests urge voters to make a powerful choice in Yorkshire awards

Homeless charity Shiloh Rotherham has been nominated for a coveted prize at the Yorkshire Choice Awards 2026 and its guests and CEO are calling on the public to vote.

For the past decade, the awards have celebrated the charities, fundraisers, volunteers, community groups and businesses that make our region such a special place.

Shiloh has been nominated in the Charitable Excellence Award category alongside 42 other small, grass-roots charities and is the only Rotherham-based homelessness charity amongst the nominations.

The homeless community or guests, supported by the charity, say the nomination reflects the life-changing impact Shiloh has had on their lives.

Freddie has been visiting Shiloh for four months and now volunteers in the kitchen. He said: “I think everyone should vote for Shiloh because the staff don’t just do what they do because it’s a job – they really do care and are passionate about helping people facing homelessness. Shiloh helps guests to survive and it makes such a difference.”

Luke said: “I love Shiloh because when I was at my lowest point and I thought no one could help me, Shiloh did. They’ve provided me with housing and benefits advice and mental health support. Because of the cost of living, places like Shiloh will be needed even more in future. I’ve already voted and think everyone should too.”

Ben, who was homeless for two years, added: “Shiloh helped me get my life back on track and without it, I’d be really struggling. I like coming here to get food and to make friends. It helps me keep my head above water and is a lifeline for me and the homeless community. I think everyone should vote for Shiloh.”

Shiloh, based at Station Road in Rotherham, provides food, clothing, shower and laundry facilities, access to technology, intensive one-to-one support, health and wellbeing advice for adults who are homeless, or facing homelessness. The charity also connects people to partner agencies which can help them gain stability and independence – turning homelessness into hope.

The charity is reliant on donations from the public and grants to fund its essential service.

Sarah Smart, CEO at Shiloh said: “Being nominated in the Yorkshire Choice Awards is a real honour and your vote could help us become a finalist. As a small, local charity, every opportunity to raise awareness about our work really matters. We support people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, offering compassion, practical help and hope when it’s needed the most.

“It is incredibly powerful to hear our guests speak about the difference Shiloh has made to them and we hope their voices will inspire people to vote.”

Voting closes on 1 March 2026. The charity which receives the most votes will also become the Yorkshire Choice Awards’ next charity partner. Please cast your vote here: https://www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk/vote.
