Vicky McClure’s choir is coming to Rotherham

Enjoy a heart-warming evening of music with Vicky McClure’s Our Dementia Choir at a fundraising concert organised by the Rotary Club of Rotherham.

Rotherham Rotary Club are thrilled to welcome the Choir to the famous Greasbrough Club on Friday 20th March, with special guests and local choir Friends in Harmony.

They have graced stages across the UK and promise their Rotherham performance will be as emotional as all of their shows to date.

Our Dementia Choir (ODC) began as a documentary for BBC in 2018. The two-part series saw acclaimed Nottingham-born actress and presenter Vicky McClure go on a deeply personal journey to discover the extent of music’s power in combating dementia, after helping care for her grandma who passed away in 2015.

Vicky had seen the amazing effect music had in calming her grandma down and so formed a choir of people living with dementia in Nottinghamshire. Joining forces with some of the country’s leading experts, the choir took part in ground-breaking scientific studies to measure their emotional and physical responses to singing over three months of regular sessions, proving that people living with dementia can still achieve something truly remarkable.

As a result, the ODC was born, and it continues through its performances to demonstrate the incredible power of music and its positive impact on those living with dementia, bringing with it happiness, connection and comfort.

In fact the choir is more than just a singing group, it’s a secure space where the therapeutic effects of music extend beyond the boundaries of medicine.

Since its inception, the choir performs regularly around the country, from small intimate gatherings to large-scale events. They have appeared at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham Forest football ground, the Cavern in Liverpool and a host of community venues around the Nottinghamshire region. They have recorded at Abbey Studios, including the renowned single ‘What’s your Story’.

The ODC will be led by their Musical Director Daniela Smith, while Musical Director Graham Cowley will lead Friends in Harmony.

President of the Rotary Club of Rotherham Michael Sumption said: “Of course, we are all hoping that Vicky McClure will attend to support her Choir. She is a regular attendee, but much depends on her acting and filming commitments. We will hope for the best!”

The concert begins at 7.00pm at the Greasbrough Club, Church Street, Greasbrough, S61 6QJ. Parking is free. The event is kindly sponsored by KCM Waste Management and Home Instead and all funds raised will go to Rotary charities.

Tickets cost £12.00 and are available now via www.ticketsource.co.uk/null/rotherham-rotary-presents-vicky-mcclures-our-dementia-choir/2026-03-20/19:00/t-yzaknvy.
