The Inner Wheel Club of Retford began the year with tea and scones at President Dot’s house in support of her chosen charity for the year, Bassetlaw Hospice. Members will also be running a stall at the annual Scrooby Show, which is always a most enjoyable event.
This month’s speaker will be District Chairman Joy Fox, whose charity for the year is the Nightingale MacMillan Unit and Nottinghamshire Hospice. At a recent District induction meeting, immediate Past President Lyn Copper presented a cheque for £8,418.38 to Derbyshire Young Carers, raised during her year in office.
The club has also donated toy bags and joy bags (for children and mums), as well as 38 baby bundles, which are currently on their way to The Gambia via NPAC. On a local level, members will be visiting The Longest Yarn2: Britain at War exhibition at Southwell Minster during September. This will be alongside the club’s monthly walk and coffee meeting at Idle Valley.
The Inner Wheel Club of Retford meets on the second Thursday of every month at Ye Olde Bell, gathering at 5.30pm for a 6.00pm meal, followed by a speaker or social evening. New members are always welcome – for more information, email retfordiwc@gmail.com.
