Open Arms is a community-based support project that has provided cost-of-living assistance and a welcoming environment for residents of Rotherham for over three years, supporting more than 3,000 individuals. It is a collaborative partnership between Rotherham Council, Rotherham Federation of Communities, Citizens Advice Rotherham and District, LASER Credit Union, and Voluntary Action Rotherham.
The project provides a variety of free services to help residents manage the rising cost of living:
- Face-to-face appointments with Citizens Advice Rotherham and District advisers.
- Mobile membership opportunities with LASER Credit Union, a local non-profit financial enterprise.
- Practical advice on budgeting, energy saving and improving digital skills.
- Signposting to community groups and organisations, or support to start a new group.
Family events
During the school holidays, Open Arms organises free family events open to all. These include fun activities such as magic shows, face painting, circus workshops, exotic animal experiences and craft days.
This year’s free family activities will take place at the following venues:
- Liberty Church Rotherham from Wednesday 30th July to Friday 1st August.
- Swallownest Community Centre from Monday 11th to Wednesday 13th August.
- Liberty Church Parkgate on Tuesday 26th August.
