Maundy Money

Everyone at Winthrop Gardens is proud of their dedicated volunteer and Wickersley resident, Judith Trickett, who was a recipient of the Sovereign’s Maundy Money at a service on Maundy Thursday at Durham Cathedral.

Judith said: “I really did receive it! I curtsied and shook the King’s hand. It was such an honour and blessing.”

The Royal Maundy Service, during which King Charles and Queen Camilla distribute Maundy Money, took place this year at Durham Cathedral. This marks the 152nd time the service has been held. A total of 152 recipients – 76 men and 76 women – were selected to acknowledge their Christian service to the Church and their local communities, with the number of recipients matching the age of the reigning monarch.
