Do something brilliant today with Worksop and District u3a

U3a is a UK-wide collection of over 1,000 charities that provide opportunities for those no longer in work to come together and learn for fun.

Make the most of retirement by joining Worksop and District u3a. Established in 2019, this branch now has more than 500 members from Worksop and the surrounding villages and offers over 30 different interest and activity groups, meeting at various venues in and around Worksop. There is something for everyone – whether looking for somewhere to meet others, learn a musical instrument, get fitter, take up a new hobby or revive an old one. Many members affectionately describe the u3a as a ‘youth club for mature teenagers’.

A great way to get started is by attending the monthly meeting, held on the third Thursday of each month at Carlton-in-Lindrick Civic Centre, with entry from 1.30pm. Free refreshments are provided, and there is a chance to speak with members and group leaders about what is on offer, followed by an engaging presentation from a guest speaker.

The March monthly meeting brought all the Interest Groups together under one roof for the first time. Even long-standing members were surprised by the range of activities available. Group Leaders demonstrated what happens in their sessions and answered numerous questions. There are musical groups, physical activity groups, cultural and social activities, as well as a wide variety of hobbies and games. A recently launched group for Golfers, both experienced and beginners, meets at Bondhay Golf Club. Popular groups include the Travel Group and Lunch Club. Several musical groups also perform in public and have developed a loyal following.

The next monthly meeting will take place on Thursday 15th May, when the Singing for Pleasure group will entertain with a selection of popular songs and lead some uplifting community singing.
