North Notts Association of National Trust Members

The talk entitled Pilots in Petticoats – Masters of the Sky was given by David Skillen, a speaker who has enthralled the North Notts Association of National Trust Members with other subjects over the past few years.

This was a fully illustrated talk about the women whose achievements enabled them to secure their place in aviation history. Every type of aircraft, from hot air balloons and biplanes to Concorde and, more recently, space travel, has involved women. The first lady, Elisabeth Thible, took to the skies in 1794, followed by legends such as Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson, and more recently, astronauts like Sally Ride.

The last meeting of the summer season took place with the AGM in April. Outside visits will then take place, beginning with a visit to the Thackray Museum and the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Wednesday 21st May. Existing members will have been sent full details, and the next few visits are as shown below.

There are different payment schemes for people who may not wish to take part in every event, which can be paid for separately. Membership is £32.00 single or £58.00 joint, covering seven talks and five outings. Outings are priced individually for all members. Alternatively, the basic subscription is £6.00 single, £8.00 per couple, with payment for each talk attended £7.00. Visitors, including non-National Trust members, are welcome to all talks at £7.00 per talk. Prices are subject to confirmation.

An application form to join the Association can be downloaded from the website, and news of talks, etc, can be obtained by joining the mailing list.
