At a recent Rotherham Titans home game against Leicester Lions, Peter Shaw and Michael Sumption from Rotherham Rotary Club presented a cheque for £1,700 to the Titans Community Foundation (TCF), represented by trustees John Whaling and Lindsay Jones.
The grant will fund essential kitchen equipment for the new TCF Youth Centre, known as the White Building, which is nearing completion at the cricket pavilion end of the ground. The kitchen area will be used to educate young people, teaching them how to cook nutritious meals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The primary purpose of the White Building project is to create a safe educational space for young people from all backgrounds, offering activities five days a week and four evenings a week for the foreseeable future. Daytime sessions will support young people who are excluded from or unable to attend school, while school holidays will feature a programme of activities. In the evenings, the centre will serve as a venue for youth clubs catering to various age groups.
The project is managed by trustees Julie Watson, Lindsay Jones, and John Whaling and staffed by TCF personnel.
The funds consist of 50% from a Rotary District Grant, with the remainder matched from Rotherham Rotary Club’s charitable account.
Michael Sumption expressed the hope that Rotherham Rotary Club will continue to support the project as it develops.
