Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club held a very enjoyable Valentine’s dinner at the Golf Club. As is tradition, all the ladies were presented with a red rose before the meal. A raffle, with prizes donated by President Martin, raised over £100 for the club’s charities.
Entertainment was provided by the talented Lucy, who performed a medley of love songs appropriate for a Valentine’s evening. Her experience includes an appearance on the television programme The Voice, where all four celebrity judges turned their chairs upon hearing her sing. She was subsequently mentored on the show by Tom Jones.
This provided the perfect introduction for the club’s own Tom Jones—Roger Green—who, complete with a Welsh accent, entertained everyone with some very funny jokes.
It was an excellent evening, and thanks go to the Social Committee, including President Martin, Steve, Peter, and Tom, for all their hard work in organising the event.
Elsewhere, Rotarians from Rotherham Sitwell Rotary volunteered at the Great British Beer Festival at Magna. The supported charity was Rotherham Cancer Care Centre.
Celebrating 120 years of Rotary!
Sunday 23rd February marked Rotary’s 120th anniversary. On this day in 1905, Rotary was founded by Paul Harris, kickstarting over a century of service.
Thanks to Julia and John
On behalf of Rotherham Sitwell Rotary, President Martin Davis and Trevor Johnson were proud to present John and Julia Culver with a special luxury hamper as a token of appreciation for storing the club’s Christmas float between seasons. It is through the kindness of people like John and Julia that Rotherham Sitwell Rotary is able to be more effective in the community with the funds raised.
President Martin later received a letter from Julia and John, thanking the club for the unexpected gift, which they are already enjoying and will continue to do so for weeks to come.
