Bassetlaw District councillors have continued to support local community groups by awarding grants to activities that will benefit the community within their respective electoral ward areas.
Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
Among the latest recipients are:
- Worksop Ladies Hockey Club, which has been running for almost 50 years and is the only Women’s and Junior hockey club in Bassetlaw. The £600 grant will be used to buy a new away team kit, as well as funding match fees and umpires for league matches. - The 2025 Worksop Halloween Half Marathon, has received £400 to support the running of the event. Entries are now open, with the race getting underway on Sunday 27th October at 10.00am. Find out more about Worksop Harriers Athletics Club and to apply for entry at www.worksopharriers.co.uk.
- The Blyth and Hodsock Historical Society have been collecting photographs and artifacts of Blyth and surrounding area over the last 13 years. They will be able to expand their archive collection and showcase a village’s history thanks to a £200 grant. See www.blythandhodsockhistoricalsociety.co.uk.
- Backed by a £600 grant, the Singing with Dementia Group based at the Crossing Church and Centre in Worksop has been able to cover the costs of the professional singers who perform at their sessions and purchase a new stand for their TV. The group has been running since 2019 and regularly gets 30 to 40 attendees from in and around Worksop.
- The Tiddler Playgroup, based at Shireoaks Village Hall, have been able to purchase a brand-new toddler climbing frame and skipping stones thanks to a £200 grant.
- The Feel-Good Memory Group is hosted at Kilton Forest Golf Course and provides a safe space for people with dementia. The group creates an environment where members can try new experiences as well as make new friends along the way. A £650 grant from ward members helps to offer a four-week programme which includes entertainment such as games, a vocalist and exercises designing to support health and wellbeing.
