Family History Course
For those interested in tracing their family tree but unsure where to begin, Inspire is offering a six-week course, ‘Researching Your Family History’. The course will guide participants through the main records available for family history research, helping them locate key documents and online resources while developing skills to interpret their findings.
The course focuses on records from England and Wales, including birth, marriage, and death certificates, census returns, the 1939 Register, and parish registers. Additional resources such as newspapers, trade directories, electoral registers, and wills / probate records will also be introduced. Participants will work with sample documents, case studies, and receive tips on organising and recording their research effectively.
The sessions will take place on Saturdays, 10.00am to 12.00pm, from 18th January to 22nd February. The course costs £42.00, with free places available for those in receipt of certain benefits. Heritage Talk by Adrian Gray
The first heritage talk of the year, ‘The Scandalous Marriages of the Sherwood Aristocracy’, will be held on Saturday 18th January at 2.00pm. Adrian Gray will delve into the fascinating lives of the lords and ladies of Sherwood’s great houses – Rufford, Welbeck, Clumber, and Thoresby. His talk, based on his book The Scandalous Lives of the Sherwood Forest Nobility, explores their illicit love affairs, gambling habits, and the disastrous marriages that shaped history.
Discover how modern divorce laws originated from a Sherwood Forest case and uncover the intriguing details of who was at fault in this captivating talk.

Family Theatre from Nottingham Playhouse
Nottingham Playhouse brings a delightful new adaptation of The Ugly Duckling to Worksop Library on Saturday 25th January at 11.00am. This heartwarming tale, designed for children aged three to eight and their families, features music, creative captioning, and plenty of audience participation.
