Wickersley Library and Neighbourhood Community Hub is hosting an exhibition of paintings titled ‘Painting the Light’ by local artist Paul Freeman from 11th to 16th November as the centrepiece to a week of free talks, painting, and workshops. Paul will be on hand for the whole week, happy to talk, teach, present his art and, of course, paint.
Paul, a Yorkshireman, born and bred in Rotherham, worked as a hairdresser for almost 50 years, owning hair salons locally. He lives in Ravenfield with wife Jayne.
The painting began eight years ago as a hobby, but hobbies don’t exist in Paul’s world. Now an obsessive painter, art has now become a second career in which he will not rest short of the very top.
The paintings have been described by Derbyshire Gallery owner Mark Courtney as “a miracle of paint and light” though diverse, show earth, water, air, shadow and light in all its moods and seasons, evoking an intimacy with the landscape.
